Hand-dyed fabrics come to life against the black solid used in Botany 101. In case you haven’t noticed, I like to use black solid in my quilts. Leaves and their organic shapes are favorite inspirations for me. For the quilting, I used YLI variegated thread that blends with the background color in each block. I quilted the botanical name under each leaf block for that added something-special. —Joyce Robinson
