I stopped in to my favorite local quilt shop (The Quilt Studio in Salida, no longer in business), and Fran had just gotten back from Houston. She had some new packets of earthy cotton weaves and prints. They were Japanese taupe fabrics from Diawabo. Wow, at first I was unsure, but when I got home, I called Fran up and asked her to hold the packets for me. I designed Palace Floor (also called Bats in the Belfry) to show off the subtle beauty of the taupes. I love the motion in the pieced border. I quilted a feathered wreath in the large patches using my longarm’s perfect circle tool.
